Today the Internet offers a huge resource for travel inspiration. Just by searching for “Travel Blog” or “Armchair Travel” sites like goodreads.com pop up, listing a wide variety of travel books. These include popular travel writers like Bill Bryson and Paul Theroux, and even Alexander McCall Smith, author of the N. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series, which takes place in Botswana. For more suggestions on favorite armchair travel writers visit: Take Me Armchair Traveling
Movies can also be a powerful way to armchair travel. For movie recommendations visit:
I'll Take a Large Popcorn and a Ticket to Paris and movies that inspire travel.
Better yet, there are travel iBook that combine the best elements of all the above: excellent travel writing, movies, and blogs! To check this out for yourself, I recommend that you download free sample chapters from the iBook store with the blue label that says Made for iBooks. This label tells you that this is not just another .pdf or Word document someone turned into an ePub file.
If you want something different from a traditional travel guide; something that succinctly and entertainingly reveals the essence of a place through personal vignettes of its history and culture, art, architecture, food, even its geology, and flora and fauna. To get a real taste for how these iBooks work download free sample chapters of The Passionate Traveler. Visit: www.mediamint.net:
